Dishonored is assassinated

posted Jun 22, 2016, 8:54 PM by Daniel Morrison

Finally have finished Dishonored, tried to beat this last year and got too busy with work.
As usual as I decided to kill people i get the bad ending.
To really get the good ending requires better stealth skills, but I'd rather kill everyone with swarms of rats.

I felt that I was using blink ability too much, there was a big upgrade tree of stuff but really did not feel the need to upgrade many items as stealth was not improved be many of the upgrades.

Half Life 2: Episodes 1 and 2 are done.... things that count... but don't

posted May 31, 2016, 11:12 PM by Daniel Morrison

With Dead Space 2, Half Life 2: Episodes 1 and 2.  Games that Count season set is complete.

Dead Space 2 was a fun game to play.
Half Life 2: Episode 1 was a game I stopped playing 10 years ago and felt like revisiting and completing... that was a mistake.

On playing it again I quickly remembered why I stopped and never beat a rather short game.
Alyx is likely one of the most annoying companions in video games ever. She never stops talking, she can either tank tons of damage or dies in seconds, you can't leave her behind, SHE ALWAYS IS BLOCKING DOORS!!!!!!  In episode 1 and 2 there was multiple parts where I broke Alyx forcing me to reload parts of the game. Did I mention she never stops talking? Alyx is in the game to talk to a mute and open doors for him along his path. I connected more with the garden gnome than I did with Alyx, at least he was quite and was very dependable on being where I left him (unless it was a car).

I was so happy when she died in episode 2 (don't worry death is only temporary). The game replaces her with a vortigaunt to open doors for the freeman. At least the vortigaunt is funny and doesn't seem to be able to die.

So how do you take the worst parts of Half Life 2 and make it into a finale, make it a gravity gun set-piece WITH A VEHICLE!!!!! yes combine the two overused things in the game into one giant mess of running into walls and blowing up mines. I nearly rage quit on the final battle, sadly I beat it so I got to see the ending of Half Life 2 Episode 2. If you have not played it I recommend you never do, the ending is a cliffhanger to a sequel that has not been made. I am just plain angry by forcing myself to play these two games back to back. It ruined Half Life 2 for me with these inferior sequels.

Killed Dead Space 2

posted May 23, 2016, 9:44 PM by Daniel Morrison

A little late on the announcement but Dead Space 2 is beaten. It wasn't as good as I remembered Dead Space mainly the atmosphere of the game was lacking compared to the first one. Games suffered from pick-a-gun-and-stick-with-it. DeadSpace 2 primarily gives you ammo for your equipped gun and allows you to upgrade them. The starting pistol will carry you through the game.

The PC version also comes with the weapon DLC so you have most the guns already unlocked from the get go for 1st play through. The game seems to really push for new game plus but i see no reason to play it again. The maps are for the most part linear (except the promo citadel area). Once you know the plot there is no decisions or clever foreshadowing.

Still was a fun play-through but i should have chosen hard since normal ruined the risk of death, with the exception of quick time events. Most of my deaths were the result of not pressing E during cut scenes.

Since the games doesn't exactly have bosses here is a lighter take on Dead Space 2...

Hard Reset has been beaten!!!!

posted Apr 30, 2016, 5:24 PM by Daniel Morrison

Hard reset has been beaten completing my copycat season set. The DLC pretty much doubled the gaming experience for the game and had one of the most terrifying arenas in a shooter.
Its was a very satisfying arena shooter and I still feel it was a stronger game than Shadow Warrior.

Doom3:Resurrection of Ass Punching complete!!!

posted Apr 9, 2016, 8:36 PM by Daniel Morrison   [ updated Apr 9, 2016, 9:24 PM ]

After 4.5 hours Doom3: Resurrection of Evil is done. It was fairly easy with no shortage of ammo and the artifact which as the game progressed got more absurd.

Starts out with slowing time, then it adds berserk, them it adds invulnerability. There is no shortage of bodies to refill the artifact either so don't be shy using it often. Once the artifact has berserk you can pretty much kill anything in the game with one punch, the invulnerability seems not necessary as you are already superhuman fisting machine.

The ending is pretty abrupt, I was expecting a second boss stage but mid battle get stuck in a cutscene and the game was over shortly after that.
