Dragon Age: Inquisition

posted Mar 30, 2016, 8:34 PM by Derek Atwater

Dragon Age is one of my favorite RPG titles. It's dark It's bloody it's fast-paced there's tons of dragons.  They have a great take on magic and how it has impacted the world they live in. Also they take on Elfs is new and refreshing.  I can go on and on about this game so im going to try to keep the review short and sweet.

Hero? Herald of Andraste?  wrong place at the right time? These are they choices you can make while you unravel the story behind your hero and why he/she and do what he/she can do.  I choose to embrace the idea that I was the Makers chosen. I played fairly close to a paladin ( lawful good ) as I could considering the lack of choices it was hard at times.  I also did this is Sword coast legends and had the same issue.

Music  7/10      nothing great  but not bad.

Graphics  9/10 A few bugs that made me feel like they could have worked them out but at the end of the day.

Game play  11 / 10   Have it your way. do you like fast paced hack and slash? play that way. Would you rather control every signal second  of combat you can do that too. It made easy fights fly by and hard nail bitter fights seem like you had more of a chance than you would had you played H&S

Story 8/10     Yes its a good story and on one had you get what you put into it. At times something i felt like my character would do he didn't do I didn't have the choice to make it happen.

What I learned from this game.

If you want good things in life some times you have to make them yourself.  The crafting system in this game IS OFF DA HOOK YO.  But really all the gear i found was dog shit compared to what i could make for myself. Until the end when i was using mostly Dragon kill drops.

I saved this game for last in March mostly because I wanted to savor it a bit more than the others I did this month. with all the games I played it was by far the one I had the most fun with.

Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming ( Beat)

Yet another game I had to take a breather before writing my review on.

Do you like JRPG? Do you like playing games at hyper speed? Wish you could save the world in under 30 seconds? then this game is for you.

30 min hero is a JRPG with a really funny story and witty dialog. With out getting into to much detail the story is you are the descendant of the hero of time each level you start there is something that is going to end the world in 30 seconds. Luckily for you the money hungry time goddess is here to help you save the day. Yes I'm am saying she is a gold digger. run your self through 75+ levels and you beat the game.

Graphics:  8/10 yes its 2d 8bit but they did a lot with what they were working with.

Gameplay  6/10   I give it a 6 because after the first set of 25 levels this game gets very very repetitive ( yes most games are repetitive but the good ones make it feel not so bad.)

Music / SFX   11/10     Holy crap this game has some sweet sound to it. really what helped me burn through the end.

Story   6/10  honesty time... I loved this game .. no really I did. well i wanted to love it but this game ended like 500,000 times. It ended so many times I thought I was watching return of the king extended edition. every  time it ended all i could think was Is this really the end or not.

What i learned form this game.

You can get more done in 30 seconds than you ever thought possible. when playing i had about 5 seconds left and the options were turn back time or run out and try to cut it a bit closer. most times i would run out get to greedy and have to start all over.

Sword Coast Legends Beat

I had to take some time before I did my review on this game. I am still salty about the no dragon "kill" but I cant let that hold me back from enjoying this game.

SCL is a top view 5E D&D based RPG. I guess I will start with my gripes. I will note that I LOVE D&D!!!!!!!!!

Unlike other D&D games SCL went with a cool down system. rather than you only have so many spell slots.  this kinda takes something away from the game as a whole I think. Rather than having a spell shoot off and start thinking oh man they are so dead its more just another attack that isn't very scary at all.  The magic seems very meh.  Some spells that in 5e that are really sweet are just flat out booty. Cloud of Daggers comes to mind. in 5e this spell is bad news for anyone its cast on not so much in SCL. Rogues are over powered as hell.(not sure this is a gripe but it needed to be said.)

What I enjoyed.
I really enjoyed the game as a whole. The story was compelling. The characters had depth.  The monster were challenging. Cities and towns had a good solid feel to them.

Music  7/10  I didn't hate it but on the other hand I didn't find myself humming it through out the day either.
Graphics 10/10  I didn't have one  glitch or hiccup the entire game. the game had an over all good feel to it.
Game play 8/10  fast and some times a bit to fast for what the game is.
Story 10/10 its a classic D&D type story so I ate it up.

What I learned from this game.

All Dwarf Cites more or less look like Ironforge.  I mean really come on can we get some another look for a city may look like? Molten lava OOOOO big ass anvils that are always working gears that are grinding for no reason.

Beat Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe And The Blight Below

posted Mar 7, 2016, 9:43 PM by Derek Atwater   [ updated Mar 14, 2016, 6:53 PM ]

With about 35 hours of game play I have beat the game. with a beat gives me more game play with new game +. Only a million more things to do for the complete.

Quick Overview
DQH is pretty much Dynasty Warriors game with a JRPG story slapped over it AND I LOVE IT! It picks popular heroes from all of the dragon quest games and throws them into a fun fast paced button mashing good time. With a skill tree to up your stats and spells errr skills? spell skills? what ever...

Graphics: 10/10
Game play 10/10
Music/SFX 8/10 ( Docked it 2 point because if I hear GOO WEE  or any other thing that stupid ooze had to say  one more time I was going to kill myself)
Story  8/10  Its a run of the mil DQ style story. You knew what you were going to get when you booted the game up.

What I learned from this game.
FRIEND SHIP IS MAGICAL AND IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY SWORD OR SPELL-SKILL A MAN CAN POSSIBLY WIELD. oh and if slimes were something I had to listen to on a daily basis I would not enjoy life as much as I do right now.

Pokemon Omega Ruby (Beat)

posted Feb 28, 2016, 10:02 AM by Derek Atwater

With NFGL Starting next month I wanted to push through this game knowing how close I was to the end.

Ill start by saying its been a long LONG time  since I have played a Pokemon game. I think Red / Blue was the last two I beat. ( yay for having no friends back in the day....) Luckily for me if you have played one Pokemans game you have played all of them. unless you include breeding, split type Pokemon witch make 0 sense and the whole fashion show thing witch i never did.  Do I really need to tell you what the main driving force for the main character is??? He wants to be the best. Like no one ever was. To catch them is his real test to train them is his cause... you get it..

Anyways back to the good part.

My end game team was, Latios, Vulpix, Machamp, Gyarados, Groudon, Sceptile.
